Warts are benign tumors or skin growths on the epidermis or top layer of the skin. They cause pain and discomfort to many people. It is well documented that warts are highly contagious.

Warts are mainly skin colored but sometimes darker in color. They have multiple appearance depending on where they are growing. Some are rough, some flat and some smooth. For this reason they are classified differently.

The classification are as follows::
- Common wart
- Foot wart (Plantar. Also known as Planter)
- Flat wart
- Genital warts

Common wart can be found on the hand, finger and around the nails. Foot wart (also known as Planter ) are usually found on the soles of the feet. If found in clusters, they are known as mosaic warts. Planter warts can be extremely painful.

Flat warts are smaller and smoother and they tend to grow in large numbers at any one time. They can occur anywhere on the body but mainly on the face (facial wart), lips (lip wart), neck, arms, hands, mouth (oral wart), but rarely on the tongue.

Genital warts are those exclusively in the genital area.

Wart are caused by the virus called human papillomavirus (HPV) which attacks both children and adults. There are over 60 different HPV that causes this contagious skin problem. Warts can be removed but there is no cure for the HPV virus.
