Why are Planter Warts the most painful to the affected? Here's why...
Planter warts ( also spelled as Plantar) are warts at the bottom of the foot caused by human papilloma virus (usually type 1, 2
or 4) that enters through the breaks of the skin (the stratum corneum of the epidermis). The main area of getting infected with planter warts is
walking bare feet in public shower and around locker rooms after workout.
Planter warts are common in children and teenagers. They are widespread affecting 7-10 percent of the population. About 10 percent of teenagers
have planter warts.
Their appearance are firm lesions with tiny central black points which are the ends of capillary blood vessels. The surface are smooth with a
grey-yellow color. Planter warts usually occur over the areas of pressure such as the heel and ball of the foot. Due to pressure, they are
usually flat and often endophytic (ie. they grow into the deeper layers of the skin due to pressure). Some warts may fuse together to form mosaic
warts.
Plantar warts is the only wart that cause foot pain, especially when walking due to their location.
Prompt treatment of planter warts will ease pain, prevent spread, transmission and recurrence. The child infected must be treated
immediately. See our page "Plantars Warts Treatment" for more details on how to remove them.
